About Stuart

• Born and raised in Rockville, Connecticut
• In grade school, really liked to draw and make up stories
• Studied art at Rhode Island School of Design; member RISD Board of Trustees
• Art director and consultant for educational publishing companies
• Champions visual learning strategies to help children become more successful students
• Co-founded Ligature to develop high-quality educational materials in a variety of curriculum areas, including:
  Social Studies, Reading, Science, and Math
• Visual learning author on school math textbook programs teams for elementary, middle, and high school
• First of 63 MathStart titles, The Best Bug Parade, published, HarperCollins, 1996
• MathStart named Top Ten Nonfiction Series for Young Children by Booklist magazine, a publication of the American Library Association
• MathStart books receive many honors, including awards from The Bank Street College of Education and The Oppenheim Toy Portfolio; Less Than Zero named a "Best Book of the Year" by Science Books & Films magazine
• “The Main Street Kids’ Club: A MathStart Musical” began touring in 2010
• Member of the Advisory Council to the Arts in Education Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education
• First four of 16 titles of the Stuart J. Murphy’s
  I See I Learn series published by Charlesbridge, 2010
• I See I Learn books available in Spanish, Fall 2011
• I See I Learn books featured in Book Links magazine, a publication of the American LIbrary Association, March 2011
• Lives in Boston, Massachusetts, and Tuscany, Italy, with wife Nancy. Grandchildren Jack, Madeleine, and Camille have all his books
